“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” ― W.B. Yeats
One of the things I love most about photography is that it helps us sharpen our senses. Whether you take photos for a living or simply for your family, the more we practice taking photographs, the more we notice.
We notice how beautiful the light is in the evening when the sun is low in the sky, we notice the light in our little one’s eyes, we start to frame scenes from the day as if we were looking through a camera lens… It is truly an exercise in being present and being grateful and seeing the good stuff.
As a parent, I know how easy it is to feel discouraged or frustrated during the day. When they still don’t have their shoes on and “WE ARE ABOUT TO BE LATE!” (Please tell me you deal with this, too? 😉 ) The sleepless nights, the temper tantrums, the sibling squabbles. All of this is part of life with young children, and yet so are moments like this one below.
This is why I continue to fall in love with photography. To get to capture these moments and expressions of who they are. To have the chance to create a tangible artifact, proof of the divine moments that appear among the mundane. To be able to step back and enjoy the sweetness of these little souls.
I had such a great morning hanging out with this amazing kid and his sweet family last weekend. They are the kind of people who exude both inner and outer beauty, and I absolutely adored photographing them.
I hope you enjoy this sneak peek from our session! I can’t wait to share the rest of your photos when they are ready!
