Q: What is your photographic style?
A: I love light and strive to capture images that feel clean, classic, and show genuine emotion. I delight in capturing children and families interacting with one another and with their world! After having my second child, I took a few months off from working for clients and worked exclusively as my own family photographer. :) It was during this time that I realized how passionate I am about this kind of imagery, and that I truly prefer these lifestyle-type photos on my own walls (rather than just everyone smiling and looking at the camera). To see examples of the type of photography I love take a peek at my portfolio, blog, and pinterest photography boards.
Q: How far in advance should I book my session?
A: When you know you are ready to reserve your session date, give me a call! I typically book sessions 2-3 months in advance. Fall is my busiest season, so get in touch early!
Q: What inspires you as a photographer?
A: First and foremost, my family! I am also inspired by meeting new people and helping them tell their family's story. Architecture, design, fashion, and color are also very inspiring to me, and I love collecting images of my favorite things on pinterest. Come and connect with me there!
Q: When is the best time to photograph my baby?
A: Please check out this article from the National Association of Professional Child Photographers for some wonderful information. It depends on what you hope to capture... If the answer is, "everything!", talk to me about signing up for a multi-session baby package and ask about my first year albums!
Q: What happens if it rains/snows on the day of our photo session?
A: We will keep an eye on the forecast the day before our session and make the call then. Generally if there is a greater than 50% chance of rain and we have planned an outdoor shoot we will consider either a) rescheduling, b) shooting at an indoor/alternate location, or c) dressing your kids up in their most adorable raincoats, boots, and umbrellas and let them have fun splashing in puddles (after some indoor shots, that is...)! Rain and snow can both reflect light beautifully and can actually add to the overall quality and character of the images if you are open to it. If it is snowy/icy we will make a decision that puts our safety first, and can reschedule if necessary.
Q: What happens if someone gets sick?
A: It is typically best to reschedule our session if someone is sick because a) it feels awful to be sick, b) we don't want to share the very germs that made us feel awful, and c) I don't want you to look back on your photos and think of how terrible your child felt that day. Again, we can reschedule for another day when everyone is healthy!
Q: What kind of gear do you use?
A: I shoot with a Canon 5d Mark II camera body and L-series Canon lenses. I use the highest quality professional equipment so that I can create high quality images, even in a variety of lighting situations.
Q: How do I go about setting up a photo session?
A: Click here for more information and simply follow the steps listed. Please remember that your session date is not reserved until you have completed each step in the process.
Q: When will my images be ready to view/purchase?
A: Your fully edited private gallery will be available to view within 30 days of your session.
Q: How did you decide upon the name "Ryann Colleen Photography"?
A: My first and middle names are "Ryann" and "Colleen", respectively. I decided to use my middle name since so often people hear my first name, Ryann (pronounced like "Ryan") and expect me to be a man! Pronouncing my last name can also throw people for a loop. So there you have it!
Feel free to give me a call or e-mail me if you have any other questions or would like to talk specifics!
